Happy Returns

Two rivers take you home: One flows with bitter tears of remorse,  the other with sweet tears of joy. For most of time, the first journey and the main journey was the bitter one.
Only once soaked in those waters could you rise to embrace your G‑d with joy.
But now we have experienced more than our fill of pain. That which our people suffered in lands across the ocean has purged every stain, bleached every garment of our souls, refined us and lifted us high.
The night is past. It is afternoon before Shabbat.
We have cried enough bitter tears. Now is time to return with joy.

Find a good doctor and follow his instructions.
Dispel any thoughts about illness. Think only healthy thoughts.
Strengthen your confidence in the Healer of All Flesh, that He will heal you in whatever way He sees fit.

Any Jew alive on the face of this planet today is a walking miracle. Our mere existence today is wondrous, plucked from the fire at the last moment again and again, with no natural explanation that will suffice.
Each of us alive today is a child of martyrs and miracles.

The entire month of Adar is also a very auspicious period for weddings and therefore a popular chassene-season. Besides Purim, Adar is also the month when Moshe Rabbeinu was born. He was born on the 7th of Adar, and as we all know he led us out of Egypt and transmitted to us the Torah. G-d’s greatest gift, by which we bring perfection to the world and blessing into our lives. Moshe led the Jewish people from exile to redemption amidst joy and exhilaration. The 7th of Adar is also the day of Moshe Rabbeinu’s passing. Many tzadikim pass away on their birthday as demonstration of having lived a life complete in service of G-d.

Remember you are not the body. Neither are you the animal that pounds within the body, demanding its way in every thing. You are a G‑dly soul.
Do not confuse the pain and struggle of the body with the joy and purity of the G‑dly soul.

The word in Hebrew for political party, miflaga, comes from the root word lefaleg, which means “to separate”. What our country needs is not one party or the other, we need less bickering and more unity. As it is, Hashem decides everything here anyway. Any connection between the politicians and their platforms is purely coincidental, as we’ve seen time after time in recent decades.

Every business is the business of a tailor: to make clothes for the blessings that come your way. You can’t alter the size of your blessings by putting them in bigger clothes—on the contrary, larger clothes are just clumsier clothes.
But neither must the clothes be too small meaning, you must go out and work in the real world.
Because that is the whole purpose: that miracles and blessings should not come into the world stark naked, but be clothed in the natural world. And we are the tailors.

This Shabbat is Shabbat Mevarchim ("the Shabbat that blesses" the new month): a special prayer is recited blessing the Rosh Chodesh  of upcoming month of Kislev, which occurs on Thursday of next week.

Prior to the blessing, we announce the precise time of the molad, the "birth" of the new moon.

If you feel blessed that if you feel that Hashem has bestowed you with extra tov you should feel obligated to pay back a little more by adding something to your avoda, be it an extra twenty minutes of learning, a little more kavana in davening, or perhaps resolving to put more effort into doing chesed.
