PETITION URGING PM NETANYAHU TO ADOPT LEVY REPORT
Former Supreme Court judge Edmond Levy, left, presenting the settlements report to Prime Minister Benjamin NetanyahuMore than sixty-five American Jewish leaders signed a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged him to adopt the findings of the Levy Report, which asserts that the “settlements” in Judea and Samaria are legal in accordance with international law.
The report, which was authored by a panel of renowned Israeli jurists comprised of Supreme Court justice Edmond Levy, former Foreign Ministry legal adviser Alan Baker, and former deputy president of the Tel Aviv District Court Tehiya Shapira, recommends against the future demolition of communities that had been deemed to be “illegal outposts.”
The letter endorsing the Levy Report, which was spearheaded by Rabbi Pesach Lerner, Executive Vice President, Emeritus of the National Council of Young Israel, is signed by dozens of prominent Jewish leaders from across the United States, with additional people joining in support of the letter daily.
“As the Levy Report correctly notes, Israel is not engaged in ‘military occupation’ in relation to the communities in Judea and Samaria,” the American Jewish leaders wrote in their letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu. “We believe that this conclusion vindicates the Israeli government, which has been unjustifiably vilified by many in the international community, simply because there are Jews living in this particular area of the Jewish State.”
“Like you, we recognize and respect the fact that the Jewish people have inalienable rights to the land of Israel which stem from the Bible, and we are familiar with the historic legacy of the movement of Ze’ev Jabotinsky, Menachem Begin, and Herut/Likud, which you now lead, that has long endorsed Jewish rights in the entirety of the land of Israel,” continued the Jewish leaders. “Viewing it from this perspective, the Levy Report confirms what we all know to be true and just, and it certainly warrants your support and endorsement.”
In addition to expressing their staunch support of the Levy Report, the American Jewish leaders urged Prime Minister Netanyahu to reject the claims about the report that were set forth in a recent letter organized by the Israel Policy Forum.
“In our opinion, the individuals who have urged you not to accept the findings of the Levy Report under the pretext that Israel’s status as a Jewish and democratic state could somehow be compromised by its adoption are doing a disservice to the State of Israel,” the American Jewish leaders wrote in their letter to the Prime Minister. “Despite assertions to the contrary, the conclusions of the Levy Report do not ‘place…the prestige of Israel as a democratic member of the international community, in peril.’ We categorically reject this absurd declaration and sincerely hope and pray that you do the same.”

During my recent visit to the British Parliament, I heard concern from a number of members that Jerusalem's new light rail system was built as a "tool of Israel's apartheid.” This type of claim can leave one baffled - where do you start explaining, when an intelligent elected official hits you with a claim that is so totally off base? Aside from the issue of priorities, since people are being killed by Assad daily in Syria, it is so hypocritical for world leaders to ignore that massacre and waste their time and effort in seeking out something to pin on Israel.

Activist: Jewish Press Online Chided Israel’s Friends While Legitimizing Progressive Jewish Groups

The headline grabbed my attention, so I read further into the article – which turned out to have been copied and pasted from the left-wing liberal JTA. The Jewish group similarly criticized representatives Louie Gohmert and Trent Franks, also known supporters of Israel. This, again, was very strange to me. I had just met both of these congressmen at pro-Israel events in Washington just a few days before. Louie Gohmert has visited the Shomron and met with our rabbis and local leaders, confirming his unflagging support for Israel. Of all the pro-Israel members of congress, I doubt if more loyal friends than these three can be found. They are the types of people who are ready to offer help when we call. And to be sure, they are not relying on the Jewish vote to be reelected. Supporting Israel is a basic value for them; no other incentive is needed to get them on board.
But I asked myself: “Who are these Jewish groups that see these representatives as a threat to religious freedoms? And what rights do they fear are being threatened?”
When I looked into the backgrounds of these “Jewish” organizations, I was even more surprised – and disappointed – that an established and respected Jewish publication like The Jewish Press would give a platform to groups like The Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and The Society for Humanistic Judaism.
For The Jewish Press to call these types of organizations ‘Jewish groups’ in this context is somewhat misleading. They are far from representing the traditional Jewish perspectives and values. They very well might have noble values, but not traditional “Jewish” values, per se.

In the Israeli collective memory Holocaust Commemoration Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day embody the story of the creation of the modern State of Israel. These three days represent the modern Jewish experience and the mantra propagated by the founding fathers - From Holocaust to Independence - connoting the concept of the enduring Jewish spirit of survival and the promise of Never Again.
Yet the resilience of Jewish-Israeli survival has been overshadowed by the false Arab-Palestinian notion of being “occupied” and “robbed” from their true destiny. Consequently, Israel is the “oppressor “and Palestinian nomenclature demands that the “occupation” remains the root cause of all problems, from social and economic woes to terrorism.
For the anti-Israel community, these days have embodied the Palestinian-Arab narrative, which argues that Israel had a “master plan” to evict the Arabs of Palestine by any means necessary and rob them of their land. Furthermore, the Holocaust in their view was the only reason the State of Israel came to fruition in the aftermath of World War II.
The recurring mantra found in Arab historiography hence maintains a hypersensitive focus on discrimination and inequality. Generally, Arab scholars tend to ignore the huge corpus of materials found in the archives on the war and zoom in on what are legitimate or illegitimate claims, using UN resolutions as the be all and end all.

Confront the bashers of Israel
Op-ed: Israel is not the cause of anti-Western sentiments; at best, it is a convenient excuse

MP Brazier has recently gone on record speaking out against the Light Rail train in Jerusalem, claiming that it is a tool of Israel's apartheid policies, and that it connects "illegal settlements” to recognized areas of Israel. On one hand, he claims that he has never called for a boycott of Israel, while at the same time he calls for an investigation of local UK municipalities working with the French waste management company Veolia, because of their involvement in the Light Rail project in Jerusalem.
Beyond that, MP Brazier claims that Israel's "settlement" activity in the West Bank is the cause of the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, as well as anti-British sentiments in Pakistan and Afghanistan. This takes us back to my opening question: Where do you start, when claims so detached from reality are bombarded on Israel by academics and elected officials in modern Western countries? I can understand those who say that it’s no use, and suggest ignoring the accusations. But I would suggest that we confront these bashers and not let them get away so easily.
So I was glad for the initiative of the British Israel Coalition, who asked our leadership to meet with Mr. Brazier to set the record straight. After Brazier's recent statement, BICPAK organized a letter writing campaign to the British Parliament and local newspapers, to speak out against these outrageous statements.
I am glad that we have people like Gershon Mesika, who is an effective municipal administrator with a clear pragmatic agenda of building the Jewish communities of the Shomron. But I am also not ashamed to say in any forum (including the UK’s House of Commons) that the land of Israel is the birthright of the Jewish people, as stated in the Bible.

A few years ago, while visiting the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, I had a very disturbing conversation with a member of the Islamic Wakf who was escorting me to make sure that I didn’t pray on the holy mountain. I asked him if he could tell me when the Al Aqsa mosque was built. He looked at me with a straight face and responded that it was always there. I hadn’t expected that, and of course was surprised and asked him again. I thought that maybe he didn’t understand my question and meant that the mountain was always there. So I asked again, and made it clear that I meant the mosque that is located on the southern extension of the Temple Mount that was built by Herod. (Historically, the entire platform that the Al Aqsa mosque is built on didn’t even exist during the time of the first Temple.)
It turned out that this “learned” member of the Islamic clergy, whose job is to work on the Temple Mount, actually believed that the structure of the Al Aqsa mosque was just there – from the beginning of time.
This conversation was a great help to me in understanding the Muslim Arab mindset and culture. Facts are not really so important to them. They can be made up or even changed as needed.
You don’t need to take my word for it. Go to youtube and search for this: “Moses was a Muslim who led Palestinian Muslims out of Egypt.” You will see that Islamic clergy are teaching this concept without blinking an eye. They are totally convinced that all of the Israelite heroes of the Bible were actually Muslims. This is the new replacement theology. The idea is not only Holocaust denial like what is heard from the leaders of the Islamic regime in Iran. They now deny (or co-opt) all the foundational points of Jewish history.

Some Jews bought a house and moved in.
“So what?” you might ask. If it were anywhere else in the world, little notice would be taken. But in this case, the home is in Hevron, and the last owner was an Arab.
In this case, it is something covered by international media - a cause for governmental debate and military intervention. Sounds a little off the wall, doesn't it?
The truth is that even with some background details, this story would be considered outrageous had it occurred anywhere else in the world. What is the story here? Hevron is one of four cities holy to the Jewish people: Tsfat, Tiberias, Hevron and Jerusalem.
It is the site of the burial place purchased by our father Abraham, founder of our faith, where he laid to rest his wife Sarah, mother of our nation. Our two other sets of patriarchs and matriarchs - Itzchak and Rivkah, Yaakov and Leah - were also buried in the same family cave when they passed away.
Our great King David sat on the throne in Hevron for seven years before he made Jerusalem the united capital of Israel.
Throughout the ages, the Jewish community thrived in Hevron. The pious came from afar to pray at the holy tombs and to study in the city's great houses of Torah learning.
In 1929, in response to incitement by the grand Mufti of Jerusalem, the Arabs of Hevron massacred, raped and mutilated their Jewish neighbors. 77 innocent Jewish residents of Hevron died that day, at the hands of Arab neighbors with whom they had lived at peace for decades.

Do you know? Have you stopped to think? When did this area start being called “the Israel to pull out of this area and allow the establishment of a Palestinian State here, would like you to believe that one previously existed and that Israel took it over and closed it down. The narrative presumes that people will believe it without question and will not ask for any proof. Amazingly, that strategy has worked pretty well so far.
Many people do not expect to be lied to by TV announcers and academics, and so they just take the narrative at face value. Even people who support Israel often do not realize how un-related to fact many of these claims against Israel are. So Israel’s supporters are more often put on the defensive, trying to point out the good deeds that Israel is doing in the world as a way to cover up for actions that they do not know how to explain.
But, in fact, the West Bank narrative really has little foundation. It only appeared on the stage of history in 1948, when the Hashemite army of Trans-Jordan crossed over its own western border, the Jordan River, which it is named for. The army of Trans-Jordan did so as part of the joint Arab effort to destroy the newly founded Jewish State and push the Jews into the sea.
The line of defense that the Jewish army succeeded in holding as they defended Tel Aviv from invasion was later dubbed “The Green Line” because it was marked with green colored crayon on the map that was used at the signing of the Armistice Agreement between Israel and its neighbors in 1949 on the Greek island of Rhodes. In that agreement, the Arab side refused to define the green line as a recognized border, but only as an agreed ceasefire line - nothing more.
The Hashemite Kingdom of Trans-Jordan tried to annex their newfound land west of the Jordan River by imposing their laws and naturalizing the Arab residents of the area. They went so far as to change the name of the country to Jordan, removing the prefix "Trans" as a way to hide the fact that they belong on east side of the river, but not on both.
