To the UN, Jews are supposed to be passive victims, and departure from this assigned role is unacceptable.
It’s the old central theme of the Albert Dreyfus affair: the fog of anti-Semitism in seemingly liberal societies.
The blood libel leveled last Thursday at the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, which passed a resolution ordering a first probe about Israel’s settlements, is no different from that which plagued Dreyfus and Jews for centuries.
The United Nations today is the tool of those who would make Israel the archetypal human rights violator in the world today. It is the most important breeding ground for anti-Semitism.
Three days after four Jews were murdered in a pleasant French city, the UN chose to demonize the Jews. For them, Jews are supposed to be passive victims, and departure from this assigned role is unacceptable. That’s why they criminalized “the settlers”.
During the same period, at the heart of Europe, in Geneva, Hamas’ man Ismail al Ashqar spoke before some members of the UN’s human rights council.
In Bruxelles, Catherine Ashton, the EU’s foreign policy chief, compared Toulouse’s massacre to Israel’s militacy operations in Gaza, abolishing Jews’ human rights.
Last week, the victim was not a single French Jew like Captain Dreyfus, but the whole Jewish nation.
The plotters were not a band of anti-Semites in positions of influence, but an unholy alliance of murderous racists, “democratic” commissioners, shameless journalists and corrupt intellectuals.
It is not only that the United Nations persuaded a large majority of the world’s nations to probe the most threatened democracy in the world - that fact that the UN had refused to condemn anti-Semitism after Toulouse is another measure of the organization’s old insanity.
It is a pattern.
Former secretary-general, Javier Perez de Cuellar - Peruvian, not Arab – spoke at the opening of the 1991 Auschwitz exhibition at UN Headquarters in New York, without once mentioning the word “Jew”.
During the 1993 Vienna World Conference on Human Rights, efforts to place “anti-Semitism” in the final declaration were rebuffed. The chairman of the drafting committee told one participant that it was “too controversial”. In a worldwide human rights meeting whose purpose was to reaffirm the values of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, anti-Semitism could not even be mentioned.
When the United Nations celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2005, Unesco refused to mention the Shoah in its World War II resolution, intentionally ignoring Israel’s request to include a reference to the destruction of European Jewry.
Western columnists will carry the burden of fostering oppression and hatred wherever they go. Our journalists ran front page stories about “the monster” in Toulouse and pensive columns on the neo-Nazi threat.
The four Chabad Jews were deprived of their religious identity. No more Jews killed just because they were Jews, but innocent emblems of tolerance persecuted by the monster of xenophobia and right wing hatred.
As soon as the media discovered that the killer was a Muslim - silence. No more columns. No more front pages.
Our readers already digested Toulouse because their newspaper romanticized the killers of Israelis.
As soon as the media discovered that the killer was a Muslim - silence. No more columns. No more front pages. When Yasser Arafat’s death squads assassinated Israeli athletes in Munich in 1972,one wondered - what could have been more repugnant than the massacre of innocent athletes carried out at the Olympic Games?
But the episode became a great media event that stressed the “occupation” of Palestine, and not a terrorist attack against the Jewish people on German soil thirty years after Auschwitz.
The cowboy hats and the kefiyyehs of the kidnappers, and their long hair similar to university students, diverted attention from a simple reality: A band of terrorists slaughtered, one by one, 11 Jewish athletes.
When Arafat died, the “civilized” newspapers all mourned him, despite needing a calculator to figure out which one, Arafat or Osama Bin Laden, had been responsible for the taking of more innocent lives.
We live in a time when death and bloodshed are celebrated and romanticized. And the United Nations, the European Union, the global media and the mainstream intellectuals are all washing their hands of the Jewish deaths, more than Lady Macbeth could wash out the damned spot of King Duncan’s blood.
But they can’t wash their hands of guilt. These stains will never go away
