Charoset: A mixture of chopped apple, walnuts and red wine. Ground up together, Charoset resembles bricks and mortar, reminding us how hard we were forced to work when we were slaves in Egypt. Charoset in depth

Karpas: This can be a small slice of onion, boiled potato or sprigs of parsley. We dip the Karpas into salt water at the beginning of the Seder, representing the salty tears we cried when we were slaves. Karpas in depth

Chazeret: Romaine Lettuce
This is the second portion of bitter herbs which we eat during the Seder. This is eaten in a Matzah sandwich together with Maror.

matzot...

what is chametz...?

Chametz is any food product made from wheat, barley, rye, oats, spelt, or their derivatives, which has leavened (risen). Our sages have determined that flour from any of these five grains that comes in contact with water or moisture will leaven, unless fully baked within eighteen minutes. As we are commanded by the Torah, if a food contains even a trace of chametz, we don’t eat it, we don’t derive benefit from it, and we make sure not to have any of it in our possession for all the days of Passover.
To be certain that a product is kosher for Passover, it must have rabbinical certification. Otherwise it is possible that it contains chametz ingredients, or traces of chametz if it was processed on the same equipment as chametz products. Thus, unless a product is certified Kosher for Passover, we consider it chametz, and make sure not to have it in our possession on Passover.
Note: Matzah used all year round might be pure chametz, and not for Passover use. Only matzahs baked especially for Passover may be used on Passover.

end of Pesach 5772

5772
We’ve just completed the festival of Pesach for the year 5772. It is the festival of our freedom from Egypt which we commemorate every year. I pray that this year of 5772, we witness the ultimate freedom. The end to our overdue exile. This year there should be no fasting on Tisha B’Av. In preparation for moshiach, I’d like to announce the following steps that I believe Israel should take to secure our borders and exercise our right to live freely as Jews in our own homeland.
  1. Scrap the Oslo Accords.
  2. Evict the PA.
  3. Annex Judea and Samaria.
  4. Take over administration of the Temple Mount.
  5. Never EVER compromise on Jerusalem.
  6. Close down all refugee ‘camps’ run by UNRWA.
  7. Elect a Prime Minister who is knowledgable in our legal rights to all of Israel as well as Judaism and Zionism in general.
  8. Prosecute all current and past government leaders who have tried to undermine our sovereignty over the land.
  9. Refrain from using terms that foster non-existent Arab ‘rights’ to Israel (such as “West Bank”, “occupied territory”, “Palestinian land”, etc).
  10. Update the Law of Return specifically allowing and advocating for settlement anywhere in the Jewish National Home.
  11. Remind the Principle Allied Powers of their obligation to uphold their commitments to assist Israel in accordance with their prior agreements.
  12. Officially define the State of Israel as the State of the Jewish People.
  13. Create an official publication of the legal rights of the State of Israel to all areas of the historical and geographical areas that were illegally excluded from the mandate or removed due to acts of partition.
If these steps are taken, we will overcome countless lies and fantasies and finally restore Eretz Yisrael to Am Yisrael. Moshiach is almost here. Let’s make sure 5772 doesn’t pass without the ultimate redemption.

Pesach inspiration

View From Zichron
Pesach Inspirations from Israel Inspiration Art by Yehudit Zagdanski
Pesach is a time of renewal and it always seems to bring out ideas for new paintings. I like to go up North for a change of scenery. So far I've been to Zichron Yaakov, Haifa, Tzfat and Tiveria. During the visit to Zichron Yaakov I stumbled along an art store and bought a great tall wooden easel. It had to be attached to the roof of the car to get it back home! We rented an apartment with a large mirpeset(balcony) and every evening we enjoyed a beautiful sunset, this was the view.

Matza Shemurà

When Gd commands us that during the days of Pesach we are not to eat Chamets, it is understood that all necessary precautions must be taken to ensure that what we eat is in fact not Chamets. Just as we are vigilant with other Torah guidelines that govern what is Kosher and what is not, this requires no less care and attention to detail.
Consequently, it is unnecessary and redundant for the Torah to explicitly state. "You must guard the Matzos" (Shemos 12:17). The Torah must be conveying an additional message.
Our Sages explain that the Torah requires that in addition to ensuring it is not Chamets, Matza must be made for the express purpose of fulfilling the obligation, the Mitzvah of eating Matza.
Matza made perfectly in all respects but not for this purpose, can not be used to fulfil one's obligation to "eat Matza on this night". Eating this Matza at the Seder is a special Mitzva that has its own special Beracha: Asher KiDeShanu BeMitzVoSav VeTziVaNu Al AchiLas Matza.
The Gemara explains that we may eat unleavened bread during Pesach even if prepared by a non-Jew since it is not Chamets. However, it may not be used to fulfil our Mitzvah of eating Matza.
The Gemara discusses the extent to which Matzah must be watched for this special purpose. One opinion suggests that it is sufficient if the dough is kneaded for this special purpose. And the Gemara concedes that there is no proof that Matzah must be watched from before kneading. Nevertheless, Rava taught that when cutting the grain in the fields and tying it into bundles, it should be kept in mind that this is for the sake of the Mitzvah of Matzah.
What is the Halachah?

Chometz cn Pesach, Chometz on the Mizbei'ach

chametz
"Lo Sei'aseh Chametz Ki Chol Si'or... Lo Saktiru Mimenu Isheh Lashem" (Vayikra 2:11). The two places that the Torah forbids Chometz is on the Mizbei'ach all year round, and in every person's home on Pesach. Why is this?
The Netziv in Hemek Davar says that leavening bread is using human intervention to add on to the natural state of the creation. The closer we are to Hashem the less appropriate it is for us to alter the natural order and manipulate the Briah. Therefore in the Bais HaMikdash, the dwelling place for the Shechina on earth, it is inappropriate to ever have Chametz on the Mizbei'ach to be offered up to Hashem.
Similarly, Pesach is the Yom Tov that imbues Emunah into our souls. Yetzias Mitzrayim is the banner we wave as the proof of Hashem's control over the world and His love for us, and we frequently mention Zeicher Litzias Mitzrayim. During this Yom Tov where we bask in the arms of our great Protector and Father in Shamayim, we refrain from eating any Chametz and leave the Briah as He made it, without our intervention.
